Wearing Socks with Wedges?

One of my favorite things about fashion is the chance of taking risks. 

This summer I was playing around with trying to wear socks with different type of shoes- you know the kind of shoes where it just felt wrong to have a pair of socks on.

Soon with time- it became fun!

At first, Socks with wedges seemed out of the question for me... it reminded me of the Tevas and socks in the 90s... yuck. 

That was until I shot the photography on the set of Solestruck for their spring and summer 2012 collection. Then, all of a sudden it grew on me. 

Okay so I am not 6 feet tall- or have legs that go on forever like this gorgeous model. But it was fun. It was a risk.

Take it or leave it.

Vintage Hats!

The story behind this little cardigan.

This is my all time favorite cardigan. It mixes all my favorite element- lace, gold, yellow and stripes!

So inspired by this little number-  I am over at How Does She talking about bringing bright elements into your wardrobe.

So where did I find this little number? Well, I was invited to go to the pre-grand opening of Nordstrom Rack in Boise (thank you How Does She) and my sister was able to come along!

This sweater was the first thing I picked up and placed in my cart and after trying on a bunch of stuff- it was one of the only things I walked away with that night.

One of my favorite parts was shopping with my little sister Bianca. 

oh yah and the cake balls... second favorite.

 They were amazing.

Easter Dress.... from my grandma's closet to mine.

 Ahhh Easter. I love this time of the year. The sign of renewal is evidenced all around with the budding trees and blooming flowers. 

I also LOVE to renew old clothing...this dress is from my grandma Shirley's closet. It used to be hers when she was about my age. She gave it to me and I have been waiting for just the occasion to wear it. Today was perfect. 

I paired it with a modern bright color Steve Madden platform and a cardigan in case it got chilly out. And there you go- I was ready for Easter Sunday. 

I love that these shoes look like Easter eggs! 

 I also love the simple details of this dress- including the button.

Once again shoes.

Fashion for the little people in your life.

As a little girl I wouldn't leave home without my baby doll... AND a bag full of several clothing changes. You never know when she was going to need a wardrobe change. When traveling, I would even pack a small suitcase just for her!  

So, naturally, I LOVE dressing my own little man. And I especially like going for high quality because you know you can recycle it with your other children but I refuse to buy anything full price. 

 Make sure to be watching for sales and stock up with sizes they will grow into! Kids grow so fast! Some of my favorite places to shop for children clothing is The Gap, Zara, and H&M.

Feeling sassy

I was feeling a little sassy this week... and when I feel that way I always turn to wearing some tall boots.... not sure why. Maybe I like the way they sound when the hit the floor...

My husband is my best kept secret...

One day I received a package on my front door step... it was a gift from my husband. And in the HUGE box were clothes, shoes, and accessories he purchased on a close out sale!! 
He is my best kept secret when it comes to my wardrobe
 I would say that 75% of the time I have on something he gave me... whether it's shoes, accessories, hats, scarves, dresses, sweaters- you name it...he does good work. I heart him. 

Not only does he have pretty good taste but he is such a smart bargain shopper...I am over at Here  today talking about his Bargain Tips...I will be highlight each one individually for my Truly Modly Deeply readers this year!

Here are two looks under $35 that I put together from the items in the box.

Want to be a fashionista without breaking the bank?

-Shop at your local thrift or consignment shop (if you can get over them previously being worn…there are amazing things!)

 

-Try discounted stores such as TjMaxx, Ross, Marshalls, or Burlington Coat Factory (Be prepared to dig a little…but it is so worth it!)

 

-Go to the Clearance rack first of any store (including the stores mentioned above)

 

-Subscribe to websites that promote daily deals (ie, Zulily.com, dealnews.com, 6pm.com,whiskeymilitia.com )

 

-Have a “Dust Collector Party” with friends where you trade clothes you don’t want anymore (I have never hosted one of these parties myself…but will do it and report back)

-Vintage is the rage- so, go through your grandmother’s closet (with permission of course)

 

-Buy things at the end of the season sale for the next season (especially your classic basics that won’t be out of style)

-Shop at the outlet stores (especially during their sale season before and after holidays)

-Sew your own clothing and accessories (I need help in this area)

 

-Reuse parts of old clothing to create something new (bring crafting into your wardrobe)

 

-Add an inexpensive accessory to change the look (my favorite and easiest thing to do)

 

-Shop at a local vintage shop or flea market (there are some real treasures waiting for you)

 

-Subscribe to emails of your favorite stores to be aware of the mega sales (maybe have a designated email account for this one)
